Not just Sushi

Blue Ribbon Sushi, 119 Sullivan Street (between Prince and Spring streets)
New York, NY 10012
212.343.0404

Recently I visited my favorite sushi place in the world again -  Blue Ribbon Sushi, in Soho, Manhattan. For years I was a regular visitor – eating here once or twice a week – since the Sushi is the best you’ll find. Personnel is first class and the decor of the restaurant simple, a bit dark, not overly comfortable but always making you feel like you are coming home.
My starter consisted of a shrimp tempura – just like it should be, deliciously light batter and non-greasy. As a main course I had the California roll with blue crab en Tuna with flakes – easily superior to anywhere else. Dessert consisted of a green tea creme brulee, gorgeousl

If you like Sushi and you are in New York – you absolutely have to make a stop here. Be early – I am not the only one who thinks this place is great!

A good bed for a reasonable price in Manhattan

Hilton Garden Inn
121 W 28th Street

When I am travelling (which I do often!) I like staying in special, beautiful hotels – which is a bit of a challenge when you are running a start-up company! An even bigger challenge is finding a nice and affordable hotel in New York. Normally speaking the W Hotels are amongst my favourites but it is rare that I am able to negotiate a reasonable rate with the W in NY, even though I am a frequent guest – which is a problem with central reservation desks. Sometimes I just walk into the hotel of my choice and testmy negotiation skills at the front desk – you may find you can get a discount up to 50% of the list price, particularly at weekends where business hotels are concerned.

After my better-than-average experience at the Hilton Garden Inn in Mountainview, CA, I figured that there may even be one in Manhattan. And it turned out to be at least US$100 cheaper a night then the best W rate I could get at the time! I still had to fork out US$269/night, not exactly cheap but reasonable for Manhattan. The hotel is in “Chelsea” – a nice neighbourhood.

Room and bed were wonderful – breakfast standard buffet but good food and that’s it, no frills but all you need.
